Family Feud

My cousin Kristy and her family were recently contestants on Family Feud.  It was so much fun to watch them!

Heather LOVES art but isn't sure what to do with it after graduating from high school.  She found an art studio workshop at a local art college that teaches computer game design and thought that might be a fun career.  The workshop was three days long.  Day 3 was a half day and was mostly a parents' day.

Heather was quite excited that they used special laptops that flip down so they lie flat like a drawing board.  Students use a stylus and actually draw on the screens and then can flip them back to a vertical position. Very cool.  Too bad they are $1,000+ just for the monitor.

Family Farm

My parents and my brothers have started a family farm.  I thought I'd share some pictures of what they are doing to become self-sufficient.

It gets cold outside so David (center) grew a beard.

Devon and Dad decided to grow one, too, so it became a contest.

They bought a tractor about the same age as Dad.

They bought a mama goat for milking and she had babies shortly afterwards.  The three babies are pretty cute.

Shadow the Rottweiler likes to guard the baby goats.  Mama goat is not pleased by this.  She keeps a close eye on Shadow. 

We hope to spend some time at the farm this summer.  If we do, I will post more pictures later.

Prom 2013

This year prom was extra fun because TWO of my girls were old enough to go. Emily and Heather and Heather's best friend Austin all went together on a group date.  Austin's date is in our ward.  Emily and Heather went with brothers from their dad's ward.

 

Pat and his wife made dinner for the three couples. The table setting was lovely and they had a menu with choices for the entrée, dessert, drinks, and so forth.  Unfortunately, none of the pictures of the table turned out.

 

It was POURING rain on prom night so we went to the park and took pictures a couple days later.  They thought they were looking pretty cool.

Cooking for Camp

Heather and Megan are going to church girls camp in June.  To help each girl raise money their youth group hosted a spaghetti dinner and dessert auction.  The money raised by the spaghetti dinner was divided evenly between all the girls; however, the money from the dessert auction was applied to whichever girl brought the item.

My girls spent the morning at Grandma's house baking.  Then we came home and did some more baking at our house.  It was SO MUCH FUN!  Their dad loves pecan pie but Grandma only makes it at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The girls wanted to learn how to make it for dad and practiced by making two for the dessert auction.  Grandma was kind enough to have them make a third one for Dad.  He was appropriately excited!

We also made triple chocolate brownies, no bake cookies (Papa's favorite!), lemony lemon brownies (Heather wanted to try this new recipe), and Cookie Monster cupcakes.  Everyone was very generous and the girls earned all the money they needed for camp.  Megan was excited because the highest selling item was her Cookie Monster cupcakes.  She said next year she will make a whole bunch!

Megan made chocolate cupcakes.  The eyes are white chocolate melts and chocolate chips glued on with white frosting.  We bought a small bag of mini chocolate chip cookies and made blue frosting.  I piped the frosting onto the cupcakes and Megan added the cookies and eyes.  We used a special frosting tip -- Wilton 233.  The frosting took a while, but Megan was patient and SO excited about how cute they turned out. 

Cluck Like A Chicken

Our former bishop has a foosball table in his Arizona room.  He used to have the youth over regularly and they always ended up playing foosball. 

Our family was invited over one time and Bishop joined my three girls in a foosball challenge.  Megan was much younger then and she was on Bishop's team.  He decided to make a bet with the girls.  The losers had to stand on their heads and cluck like a chicken.  Bishop and Megan lost!  They had to stand on their heads and make clucking sounds. 

Bishop and his wife are leaving this week to serve an 18-month mission in Argentina.  They invited the youth over this past week to have one last party at his house.  He grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and played a John Bytheway CD for them.  And they played foosball!  He challenged my girls to a game before we left.....but he did NOT make any bets this time!

We are going to miss Bishop and his wife, but we are excited for their new adventure.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

While teaching my class at church today, we talked about shepherds.  We talked about how sheep know the voice of their shepherd and how they will follow their shepherds (rather than being herded from behind).  We also talked about how much shepherds love their sheep.  They will look for their lost sheep and will protect them from wolves and other wild animals.

At the end of the lesson we made fluffy lambs using cotton balls.  Here is my sample for the children to follow:

One little boy said he didn't want to be a sheep.  He preferred to be a wolf!  When I handed out the lambs to color, he said he wanted to make a dead lamb "with x eyes."  Here is his picture:

Clearly, I missed something in my deliverance of the lesson material!  Ha Ha
