Spoons

The girls recently spent two days with their cousins.  "The Cousins" only live about 45 minutes from us, but we hardly ever seen them because of eveyone's busy, busy schedules.  Between school events (sports, plays) on both ends, church responsibilities, homework, and visits to three sets of non-custodial parents, arranging time to get together is tough.  But we finally did it and we had a blast.

We took the time during our time together to play an old family favorite:  SPOONS!  When I was growing up, we played Spoons every time my great-uncle came to visit.  My grandmother had a metal kitchen table, so the metal spoons rattled nice and loud....especially when Uncle Jim slammed the palm of his hand down on the table with great force!  Everyone would dive for a spoon and Uncle Jim would simply keep passing cards.  He was ornery, in case you couldn't tell.

One Christmas, my older brother totally ruined a by diving for spoons.  He tore nearly every metal snap off the front of his new shirt. The more snaps he tore off, the more often Uncle Jim slammed the table.  What great memories!  It was fun to see the next generation having just as much fun.
