Santa Sighting

Tonight Megan and I went to the grocery store to get milk and a few other items.  We were talking and pushing the cart when we saw a heavyset man with white hair and beard, a red shirt and suspenders.  He was standing at a display a few aisles ahead of us.  Megan's jaw dropped and she froze in place.

I tugged on her and continued walking toward him.  He was looking at a display at the back of the store.   As we got closer, Megan shook her head.  She wasn't sure it was Santa or not, so she didn't want to get too close.

He selected the items he wanted and turned to go just as we reached the display.  Something fell as he walked away so I bent to pick it up.  The gentleman turned back and smiled at us.  I don't remember what he said, but he was very nice and friendly.  As we walked away, Megan said, "His cheeks were pretty rosy.  I bet it really was Santa!"

We saw him again at the checkout counter.  He was in the line next to us so we checked out at the same time.  The girl bagging our groceries tried to initiate a conversation with Megan but Megan was unusually tongue-tied.  She kept staring at Santa at the next register.  I finally had to point him out to the bagging girl, who suddenly understood.  They had a whispered conversation about whether or not it was really Santa.  They finally decided it must be.

We both finished paying at the same time.  Santa was closer to the door so we followed him out.  Megan kept pulling back on the cart, slowing us down.  When I asked her what she was doing she said she didn't want me to accidentally run into Santa.  (She has been struck by a cart and knows it hurts!)

As soon as we got home, Megan shared her experience with her sisters.  She was so excited! We agreed it needed to be posted on our family blog so you can all know that Santa is not coming to town.  He is already here!
