Crazy Weather

Saturday, the wind was blowing like crazy at my parents' place, but the skies were pretty clear.  Sunday morning, we woke to see this:

Within the hour, we had this!

The girls were thrilled!  They all grabbed shoes and jackets and ran outside.

Growing up in the desert doesn't provide many opportunities to see snow falling.  Poor deprived kids!

A friend asked why we didn't make a snowman.  One word:  GLOVES.  Snow is way too cold to pack without gloves!

Our van sure looked happy to be covered in snow for the first time.

We checked online and found a forecast for 6 inches by nightfall.  We started packing to come home early to avoid the worst of the storm.

Even with the back end in Grandpa's garage it was cold and wet while we packed because the wind was blowing snow into the van.

Snow DOES have some advantages.  We forgot to buy ice for the drinks cooler, so we used snow instead.

Heather spent an hour snapping photos of "cool stuff" along the way.  She ended up wearing out my camera batteries!

The girls were excited to see the snow plows in action for the first time.

At one point one windshield wiper flipped vertical.  Why does that kind of  thing always happen at the worst possible time?  Luckily, we were able to fix it and it worked fine the rest of the way home.

Poor visibility

Really cool trees!

They remind me of the flocked Christmas trees sold at tree lots.

Emily spent the trip reading "Albrek's Tomb", the third book in the Adventurers Wanted series.  She only looked up when we oohed and ahhhed at something neat.
