The Flour Game

Last night I asked the girls if they wanted to play a board game.  The unanimous decision was that they wanted to play The Flour Game.  This is a game I played with my family when I was growing up.  I thought I'd share this fun game since you can play it with things you have around the house.

Start with a cup that has tapered edges.  A cup with straight edges doesn't work as well.  Mom gave me this cup, which is one we used when I was growing up.

Fill the cup with flour.  Tap the cup on the table to help pack it down a bit.  Turn the cup of flour onto a plate and drop a nickle or quarter on top.

Using a butter knife, take turns shaving off the flour around the coin.

It gets a little tricky after a while.  The game Jenga has always reminded me of The Flour Game.

It gets harder to shave the flour off without toppling the coin.

Drat!  The coin fell.

Time to refill the cup and play again!

I loved this game as a child.  It is great fun sharing the joy with my children.  Unfortunately, last night we ended up covered in flour as the girls decided to smear flour on each other....and me!  Today they get to clean the kitchen.  Great family memories, though.

It IS a lot fun! And this is the first time I ever remember the game evolving into a flour fight....but maybe I should check with my folks before saying that for sure......
