Every year the girls' school holds a science fair. It is a lot of work to complete the research and projects, prepare a science fair display board, and compile the written report. However, we learn all kinds of neat things each year. Each of the girls has received first place on one of their projects. Heather seems to be the science specialist because over the years she has earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons.
Some of the fun things we have studied as we participated in the science fairs during the past 7 years:
* Which environment do crickets prefer: cool or warm, dark or light?
* Which fingerprint pattern is the most common?
* Which substance will cause nails to rust the most?
* How does a circuit work?
* Do people of different ages have different levels of memory recall?
* Do children inherit their fingerprint patterns from their parents?
* Which laundry detergent will remove tough stains most completely? (We switched brands after learning ours was the worst!)
* Will the height of a beach ball's bounce be affected if the ball is filled with things other than air?
* Which packing material will protect a raw egg the best?
* Will drinking caffeine affect a person's reflexes?
Science fair time is always a very stressful time. I sometimes forget the fun parts of science fairs....until it is all over. The school science fair was tonight and while I am glad it is over for one more year, I am also glad that we have had the opportunity to learn so many neat things.
We learned a few more neat things this year. See the two posts below for the projects we did this year.
